The surname Eykelkamp is originated from a farm named 't Eykelkamp, situated nearby country-seat Medler in Vorden (Netherlands).
The first member of the genealogical tree who has been going to live on 't Eykelkamp is named Hendrik.
He is rented the farm out on 21 july 1755 from the landlord of the country-seat Medler.
The original document of the rental-agreement is available at the provincial archive in Arnhem.

As usualy in the Netherlands in the 18th century before an offical surname was made obligatory, the occupant of a farm uses the name of the farm as surname.
Before Hendrik did go to live on 't Eykelkamp he lived for a few years in another farm on country-seat Medler named 't Casteel (the Castle).
Hendrik was borne in 1694 in Zelhem on a farm named 't Wanninkhage.
At his death in 1797 Hendrik had reached an age of about 104 years old, which is very old for the 18th century!
About 1815 a grandchild of Hendrik named Willem moved to a house named 'De Lindsche smid' (smid means blacksmith), a few hundred meters away from 't Eykelkamp.
With his wife Anna he continues an already existing smithy. Besides that, he runs a pub in this house.
The smithy is closed in de 20th century. The pub still exists and a member of the Eykelkamp family runs it!
The famous smithy of Eykelkamp in Giesbeek also are members of the Eykelkamp family.
